Collector Commentary
The complete 9-volume color edition of 'GeGeGe no Kitaro', created by the legendary Shigeru Mizuki, represents a significant piece of Japanese manga history, first serialized in 1960 and later adapted into various anime series. Collectors value this set not only for its nostalgic appeal but also for its colorful treatment of Mizuki's iconic yokai characters, making it a sought-after collection among fans of retro manga. The presence of vinyl covers is a notable preservation factor, although the condition issues, particularly the severe discoloration seen in volume 9, can affect overall market desirability and valuation. Kodansha's reputation for quality in publishing is further underscored here, yet the condition spectrum should be carefully considered against current market trends, with pricing for complete sets typically fluctuating significantly depending on overall condition in the Japan market.
