Iron Armor Set, Two-Plated Dou, Mid-Edo Period

1 / 1

Description

Thank you for viewing this item. This is a two-plated dou armor set that embodies a Majin-style atmosphere. It has a neat three-stage design. The front crest features a wooden carving of a phoenix, which is rather rare. The iron base gives it a beautiful finish, and the faceplate is a splendid cherry red. The dou is an exceptional piece with a striking iron base. There is some wear on the inside of the gloves and the upper part of the armor's skirts. It comes with a set of boots, adding to its completeness. Please refer to the photos for more details. If you have any questions, please ask before bidding. This is my first auction of this item, so I will set a reasonable starting price. I hope it finds a loving home. The armor stand is not included, but it will be shipped in the armor box as shown in the images. **Note:** The era, name, and impressions mentioned in the category or title are solely my observations and may contain errors. Collector Commentary

This Two-Plated Dou Armor Set from the Mid-Edo Period is a notable piece of Japanese history, exemplifying the craftsmanship and symbolic significance of samurai armor. The intricate wooden phoenix crest adds to its rarity, as such designs were often commissioned for high-ranking samurai, making this a coveted item among collectors of historical artifacts. Given its antique condition, potential wear, and the importance of preserving such relics, it is essential for bidders to appreciate the value of authenticity and rarity that this piece represents in the Japanese armor collecting community. The current pricing reflects a deep respect for true historical craftsmanship, as items of this nature are typically scarce in the Japan market.
