Description
For many who are unfamiliar, this is truly a vintage denim.
I believe it is a product that was directly imported and handled by trading companies before Levi's became an official distributor in Japan.
At the same time, the 502 also exists.
Because of the era when washing and shrinkage was less accepted, it seems this was initially washed and then circulated as a zipper fly.
Like the 505, there are products without the selvage, making this particular piece highly recommendable.
Details
Button Back: 8
Red Tab: Big E, Uneven V
Back Pocket Lining: "Single Stitch"
Arc: Orange Stitch
Coin Pocket Lining: Chain yellow only here for some reason
Waist Top: Chain
Although it might be underappreciated at vintage shops without tags, it has a silhouette similar to the 501XX due to the straight fit, which does not taper like the 505.
Also, because of the shallow rise, the way it fades when worn is attractive.
There is still some stiffness left in the fabric, making it a worthy project for growth.
If you're looking to raise a vintage Big E denim from scratch, the 505 or 501 would cost close to 500,000 yen, and there are fewer of the 805 in absolute terms.
The downside is that there has been some alteration to the hem; I personally disliked the usual single stitch repairs, so I had a professional re-stitch it with chain stitching at Union Special without changing the length.
As for my height (185 cm), I haven't been able to wear it as the length doesn’t fit well.
However, for those around 170 cm, there might be many who can wear it without any alterations.
This is a great opportunity to grow a nearly rigid Big E denim from scratch.
It takes courage to wear dead stock, so if the size fits, I'd highly recommend considering it before wearing.

Collector Commentary
The Levi's 805 Big E denim is a noteworthy piece in the realm of vintage Japanese jeans, representing the historical import relationships before Levi's officially established distribution in Japan. Its unique features, including the single stitching and button back design, set it apart from more common models, making it particularly appealing to collectors seeking authenticity and rarity. The presence of original characteristics, alongside its deadstock condition, enhances its value, and with the size W38L34 being less frequently available, it attracts serious interest from enthusiasts pursuing iconic vintage denim. Given the meticulous alterations made to the hem in accordance with traditional methods, this piece illustrates a commitment to preserving the integrity of the garment while also accommodating the wearer's needs.
