Description

PRS is a new era standard guitar brand that stands alongside Fender and Gibson. Their beautifully crafted guitars are loved by some of the world’s top musicians including Carlos Santana, John Mayer, Orianthi Panagaris, DAITA, and PABLO. This model is the S2 series, positioned in the mid-range of PRS guitars introduced in 2013. It is made in the USA using similar woods as Core and Bolt-on models. The S2 series employs a modest wood grain top compared to the Core models and features a scarf joint neck, successfully maintaining high quality typical of American-made guitars while keeping costs down. For 2024, the S2 series includes American-made parts for pickups and electronics, bringing specifications closer to those of the Core series. Even though it is classified as mid-range within the PRS lineup, this model boasts a sound and playability that rivals higher-end models. The McCarty 594, born out of collaboration with Ted McCarty—the developer of the Gibson Les Paul—brings the McCarty even closer to vintage guitars. The McCarty 594 features a scale length of 24.594 inches, similar to the actual scale length of 1950s Les Paul guitars, and reflects respect for the Les Paul in its controls and hardware—a popular choice among PRS guitars. The body back is made from mahogany, topped with maple. The body top employs an asymmetrical beveled top, providing a unique look that differs from the traditional violin curve. The finish is a traditional lacquer that is applied in an ultra-thin layer, meeting PRS’s strict specifications. The neck consists of mahogany, paired with a rosewood fingerboard—a classic combination. A distinctive feature of the neck is the 'Pattern Vintage' shape, meticulously modeled after the neck shape of a 1953 Les Paul. This is the thickest neck shape offered by PRS, featuring an asymmetrical design on the bass and treble sides for excellent vintage feel and playability. Equipped with two 58/15 LT pickups, it aims to replicate the sound of late 1950s humbuckers, delivering a clear, warm tone. The pickups can be coil-tapped for single-coil operation, offering a wide range of tonal possibilities. The tuning machines follow a vintage style, with modern wing buttons that have successfully lightweighted the headstock while also enhancing sustain. This is a perfect example of PRS’s ultimate guitar, combining high playability and vintage sound. This model holds top-notch quality at this price point and closely approaches the specifications of higher-end PRS models. In March 2026, Paul Reed Smith, the founder of PRS Guitars, visited TONIQ and personally signed this guitar. Included: Gig bag, warranty. Text: Teppei Ozawa Inspection: Ozawa Manufacturer's warranty included. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard box.

The PRS S2 McCarty 594, especially with Paul Reed Smith's signature, is a noteworthy addition to any collector's guitar inventory due to its unique combination of vintage aesthetic and modern technology. Introduced in 2013, this model holds its ground as a mid-range counterpart to higher-end PRS lines, establishing a strong following among guitar enthusiasts for its exceptional craftsmanship and versatile tonal capabilities. With the S2 series evolving to incorporate American-made parts for 2024, the collector demand for these guitars has increased, particularly when sourced from Japan where authenticity and preservation are paramount.
