On December 14, 2024, this piece was featured in "Shinbi no Kyojin" on TV Tokyo as "The Fantastical Beauty of Seiji Fujishiro’s Shadow Play." The subject is the Takizakura cherry blossom, estimated to be 1000 years old, located on the east bank of Miharu Dam Lake in Fukushima Prefecture. This famous cherry blossom is recognized as one of Japan's three great cherry trees alongside the Benisuzume in Gifu Prefecture and the Jindai cherry tree in Yamanashi Prefecture. It was designated as a natural monument on October 12, 1922. During the blooming season, countless small crimson flowers bloom from the thick branches extending in all directions, resembling a waterfall, which gave rise to its name "Takizakura." The Takizakura is a Benishidarezakura and is known for its longevity. The reason for its long life, reportedly up to 1,000 years, is attributed to its location in the Sakura Kubo basin which shields it from strong winds while receiving nutrients from the surrounding fields in the sunlight. It has also been preserved by the affection of people for the Takizakura over the years. By the Edo period, it was already renowned among aristocrats and poets living in Kyoto, featuring in poems such as "The prestigious Takizakura of Miharu, the white waves of flowers extending to the heavens." The dimensions of the work are as follows: the frame height is 55 cm, width 48 cm, and frame-side width 3 cm. The printed artwork measures 35 cm in width and 29.6 cm in height. Please consider these measurements as approximate since they were taken with a household measuring tape. The cherry blossom petals are carefully detailed and truly captivating. Included items are the outer box, yellow cloth bag, and a guarantee certificate attached to the back of the frame. The print features a hand signature at the bottom; please refer to the photos for confirmation.
