Collector Commentary
Studio Ghibli cels command serious collector attention due to Miyazaki's meticulous animation standards and limited theatrical print runs—Porco Rosso (1992) remains particularly sought after for its intricate character work and detailed backgrounds. Authentication is critical in this market; a Mandarake guarantee certificate provides crucial provenance verification, essential given documented reproduction activity in the secondary market. Original cels show expected production wear (surface marks, slight discoloration, adhesive residue) that does not diminish authenticity; condition assessment requires in-hand inspection. Japanese domestic cels, especially those with studio documentation, retain stronger collector value than overseas materials.
