Collector Commentary
The 'Old Back' Koi King card represents an early Japanese Pokémon TCG release with extremely restricted print runs—1000 units worldwide places it among the scarcest modern trading cards in existence. Old Back variants (pre-1999 Japanese packaging with the original card back design) command premium prices due to their historical significance as first-generation domestic releases and vulnerability to condition degradation over 25+ years. Provenance from Tama University suggests institutional or private collection origin, which can enhance authenticity perception among serious collectors, though independent third-party grading is standard practice for cards at this price tier.
