## Collector note
Hello Kitty telephone cards represent a crucial intersection of 1990s Japanese character licensing and telecom infrastructure nostalgia—cards were essential daily-use items that drove massive production runs, making mint unused examples genuinely scarce today. The stated 1976/2001 dating likely reflects Sanrio's character debut versus the card's actual print run, a common documentation pattern in Japanese vintage listings. Telephone cards appreciated in collector value specifically when stored unused in original packaging, as circulated examples lost their novelty appeal; condition and original box presence directly correlate to desirability and secondary market pricing in the domestic Japanese market.
