Marshall / JMP 1959 MK II Super Lead 100w

I purchased this about three months ago from Ishibashi Musical Instruments and have only used it for a few hours, making it a ready-to-use amplifier!

It features a Laydown Transformer, which is the same specification as the early Van Halen Marshalls.

Below is the description from Ishibashi Musical Instruments at the time of purchase:

This unit has a Laydown Transformer and is covered in elephant tolex. Although the printed circuit board is dated after 1974 and the serial number shows 'B' (re-engraved), it seems there isn't a 'B' present. It is presumed that the 'G' has become less legible, leading to a mistake in writing. Thus, it can be inferred that this product is from the mid-1970s.

The unit has undergone several replacements and repairs, including:
- Power cord replacement
- Input jack replacement
- POR replacement
- Impedance selector replacement
- Power switch replacement
- Power tube socket replacement x1
- Modification traces in the power amp section have been rewired
- Power diode replacement
- Power electrolytic capacitor replacement
- Control pots cleaned and serviced
- Presence control replacement
- Repairs to broken traces on the circuit board
- Preamp tubes replaced x2
- Full cleaning and inspection completed.

There are signs of MOD on the back panel, but I've returned it to its original shape.

Currently functioning without issues, and I believe it can be used with peace of mind.
Please consider this opportunity to own it.

*Note: The back panel is missing.

## Collector note
The Marshall JMP 1959 MK II is one of the most historically significant amplifier designs in rock history, with 1975 examples like this representing the sweet spot of domestic Japanese production and the exact era favored by Eddie Van Halen. The Laydown Transformer variant is particularly prized because it defines the tonal character of early Van Halen recordings—this specific configuration became a template for collectors pursuing authenticity to that era. However, the extensive service history (multiple tube replacements, capacitor work, board repairs, and trace rebuilding) and the re-engraved/unclear serial number ('G' vs 'B') create some authentication ambiguity; while Ishibashi's provenance and documented restoration work adds credibility, vintage amp collectors typically prefer examples with clearer dating and minimal internal modification traces. The missing back panel is a notable condition deficit that affects both aesthetics and long-term resale, though functionally irrelevant.
